Why “Jupiter”?

Named for a Main Street legend.

After the deaths of the building’s founders, its most prominent tenant was the S.S. Kresge Company — which operated here from 1916 until 1977 as the Jupiter Discount Store. For 61 years, Zanesville shopped under that sign. Today the name pours again, a few steps from where the old storefront stood.
